On days when you can't eat anything

What a long absence from myself for this blog that gets a handful of hits a week for zero action...

I have been on very strict dietary restrictions lately and there is ABSOLUTELY nothing I can eat thanks to the Chinese doc I'm consulting (and yes I am disciplined enough to honour his rules). Just about all I can eat now is pork, vegetables that don't end with "choy" in Chinese (but tomatoes are out) and rice. So, I have come up with my list of "pork 7 styles" to cater for my weekly needs below:

Pork Seven Styles
1) char siu
2) tonkatsu
3) katsu don
4) minced pork pie
5) ham lots of style e.g. croque du sud at agnes b take-out is really quite good (tomato paste inside but nevermind), or roast ham from city super ; ham and egg sandwich from Tsui Wah etc. etc.
6) stewed pork (Shanghainese or Taiwanese style)
7) Vietnamese pork (this is a little bit cutting it since I am not supposed to eat anything cold either)

(To repeat every week ad nauseum until I get well)

And then I found out today that my cholesterol level got really high compared to 10 months ago. Grrreat.......maybe 7 styles of rice and broccoli will be my next post...

Friday night at Sushi U (鮨雄)

It's been a long while since I last wrote anything about...anything. I'm surprised by my own impetus to scribble a few lines tonight, as I try to break in my new Grado headphones on the good ol' Ipod.

After a week of back-to-back, 8.30am to 7.30pm meetings, nothing relaxes me more than a proper sushi meal on a Friday night. Sushi U has been the one hitting the right notes with me lately - fresh fish (except the slight burnt anago), right size, right temperature, balanced rice, yummy sake, friendly chefs. I wondered why this place was relatively empty on a Friday evening, given the quality and a reasonable omakase price tag?

I am looking forward to Sushi U again next Friday. Hopefully my favourite fresh saba will be available then.
